On May 22–25 guests and citizens of St. Petersburg were pleased not only with good weather but also with traditional 19th International Specialised Exhibition Energetika & Elektrotechnika.
Presently Energetika & Elektrotechnika Exhibition is the major business event in the market of power industry and electrical engineering not only in Russia, but also in the Eastern Europe. Over 380 participants from 14 countries and over 10 thousands of trade visitors are gathered annually at the exhibition. The exhibition meets high international requirements and standards that can be proved by the certificate of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry UFI and the annual exhibition audit conducted by RussCom IT Systems company.
The following officials attended the ceremony of gala opening of the exhibition: Vladislav Petrov, Chairman of the Energy and Engineering Committee of the Government of St. Petersburg; Nikolay Kovalev, Executive Vice-President of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of St. Petersburg; Alexander Grimitlin, President of Association of Engineers for Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning; Aleksey Tregubov, Vice-President of the Union of Power Engineers of the North-West of Russia; Sergey Voronkov, Executive Director of ExpoForum JSC; Igor Kirsanov, Director General of RESTEC Exhibition Company; Benedikt Haller, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg and Wojciech Cholewinsky, Vice-Consul of the Republic of Poland.
In the opinion of Benedikt Haller, Germany has a tremendous interest in this exhibition. “Power industry has united Russia and Germany for a very long time, and it will remain the same’, he stated. According to the words of Nikolay Kovalev, Vice-President of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of St. Petersburg, power industry is a circulatory system of the whole body of the economy and industry in all countries and the Energetika & Elektrotechnika Exhibition by its scale and significance can be regarded as the heart of this body.
After the end of the ceremony the officials went for VIP-tour of the exposition where different types of converter equipment, cabling and wiring products, low-voltage and high-voltage electrical equipment, wiring products, light engineering were demonstrated. After the tour, Vladislav Petrov talked to the representatives of companies and stressed that the majority of displayed exhibits are in great demand now in the management system of the city of St. Petersburg.
The high level of organisation and relevance of the event in power industry is proved without doubts by the presence of such companies as ABB, Tavrida Electric, Cheboksary Electric Apparatus Plant (JSC ChEAZ), Faber, Electronmash, Electroshield Samara, ABS Electro, Eltehnika, Minsk Electrotechnical Plant, Sverdlovsk Works of Current Transformers JSC, EFO Ltd., RTC Electro M, RITZ-Electro, NTT-Electro, SET, OOO CORTEM-GORELTEX, Flavir, Moskabelmet JSC, Electronpribor, VELAN, Hakel Ros and many others. Exhibitions of such level encourage participants not only to establish new contacts, but also to maintain the image among colleagues from both Russian and foreign companies.
According to the opinion of the majority of participants, Energetika & Elektrotechnika is not just an exhibition, but a platform to strengthen both intra-sectoral and inter-sectoral communication. Related business events, that traditionally receive positive feedback from visitors and exhibitors, are held within the frameworks of this exhibition.
Research and practice conference ‘Energy saving and increasing of energy efficiency in Leningrad region’ was held successfully. Energy saving is the most important tool now that can help Russia come out of power deficit. According to the opinion of Alexander Guschinsky, Director of the Center of Energy Efficiency of Leningrad region, reduction in energy consumption and modernization of state-run enterprises of Leningrad region are the priority objectives today. “By 2020 we are planning to cut energy consumption rates by 40%”, told Mr. Guschinsky. One of the ways to raise energy efficiency is to use renewable sources of energy: wind power, hydraulic power and biomass energy. However, this technology is at the stage of development now in Russia. The initial steps on the path to renewable sources of energy are taken by state corporation Rosatom and Russian association of wind power industry. “3% of thermal energy only is being generated from renewable sources of energy now, but by 2020 we are planning to increase it to 4,4%”, - told Vladimir Putsman, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Energy Complex and Housing and Public Utilities in Leningrad region.
During the conference “Personnel for energy efficient economy” participants discussed the upcoming lack of personnel in the power industry in Russia. We pay great attention to the development of engineering, training of modern highly-qualified personnel, however, in order to estimate the impact of this work, we need feedback. Conference allows receiving it, as stated by Alexander Guschinsky, the Dean of the Energy Department of St. Petersburg State Agrarian University. Low level of training in majors relating to power industry professions as well as unpopularity of these professions among future students lead to the annual reduction in the number of applicants that take up examinations in physics and informatics and choose to become power engineers. Lack of qualified experts in the field was stressed by all participants of the conference. In order to solve this situation it was suggested that higher educational institutions should elaborate jointly with enterprises and professional associations special programmes intended to improve qualification of specialists. Alexander Schukin, Head of technical committee at self-regulating non-profit organization ‘Union of Electrical Construction Workers’ told about positive experience in such cooperation: “Jointly with Moscow State University of Civil Engineering we had to organise training courses from the ground up for specialists in the field of constructing energy facilities because there is no such specialisation in Russia yet. Now general construction students have an opportunity to get additional education in this direction which is very topical for the industry today”.
The largest companies of the sector such as Electroshield Samara, ABB, Research and Production Company Alliance Electro, ElectromaticaTrade, Czech plant OEZ, Bely Svet, Cable Group SPb, Elmetro-Engineering, and Elektra have made presentations of their products.
According to the survey held by the employees of the organizer – RESTEC Exhibition Company – the exhibition proved to be successful indeed. Exhibitors stressed great commercial success of the event, contracts prepared beforehand were concluded, protocols of intent were signed, and participants managed to receive new orders.
